Jim (Jimbo or Jumbo) was born in Windsor, Victoria in 1950, the eldest of six in a working-class family. After a thorough education from the nuns and the Christian brothers, he joined the Bureau of Meteorology and qualified as a weather observer. Here he was assigned to the International Antarctic Research Centre in Melbourne. Too young to go to Antarctica, he sought experience in the clerical workforce of the Postmaster General’s department at the Technicians’ Training School. At 21 years of age and with itchy feet, he was pointed in the direction of the Department of Civil Aviation and a career as an Air Traffic Controller. After obtaining a Diploma of Aviation (Air Traffic Services), over the next 40 years he worked in Radar, Tower, Supervisory, Operational Systems, Team Leader, Training and Manager Roles. The urge to move was quelled by postings to Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Proserpine.
In 1973, Jim married Sandra, who came from Hamilton, New Zealand. That’s 45 years in 2018. A family was soon started and now has grown, from their two wonderful daughters, to two sons in law and five grandchildren. On return from North Queensland, the family took up residence in Wishart and remained there for thirty years. In 2010, Jim and Sandra built a new home in Trinity Green Estate, Drewvale. But now reside in Jimboomba since 2019.
You can easily spot their house around Christmas time as they have been into Christmas Lights displays for many years. After retiring from ATC in 2011, Jim asked an innocent question of son in law Brad, “Do you need a hand at the open homes”? The result is as you see; Jim has joined his family in 4 Real Estate as part of the family boutique agency. Jim is an enthusiastic “people person”, who thrives on the interaction between client and salesperson.
You will see him sometimes walking the streets and greeting you at the open homes. Most of his day is spent in front of the computer, data entry and cross matching search for properties for our buyers. Jim loves a chat and is always keen to talk about his interests in travel, aviation, genealogy, AFL and most other sports. Jim has a wealth of life’s experiences and is regarded by other colleagues as “the nicest person, honest and sincere – the genuine article”. Thanks for taking the time to read my story. I look forward to being able to guide you through a memorable Real Estate experience.
